Dwayne Russell makes his 2025 AFL premiership pick

SEN host Dwayne Russell is picking GWS to win the 2025 AFL premiership.
While Russell’s early call comes with the caveat that the Giants don’t suffer any major injuries before the season begins, he’s certain that Adam Kingsley’s side has what it takes to win a maiden flag for the club in 2025.
GWS enter 2025 off a 2024 campaign where they finished fourth but were bundled out of finals in straight sets, and he feels like the Giants really should have won it all last season given they led eventual premiers Brisbane by 44 points before losing that Semi-Final by a kick.
Russell explained why he’s backing the Giants to get it done in September this time around with one key recruit set to add to an already stacked best 23 on paper.
“If the Giants don’t get any major injuries in the next month, they're my premiership pick,” Russell told SEN Afternoons.
“You add a fit Jake Stringer to a team that should have won the flag last year, given they were six or seven goals up against the Lions in their semi-final and lost.
“I think the Giants have got everything you need – they’ve got a really good midfield with some great midfielders.
“They've got a fantastic forward line they've just added Stringer to with Jesse Hogan … I mean, Jake Riccardi couldn’t even game a game in that forward line late last year and same for Callum Brown, so they’ve got a really good forward line.
“With Sam Taylor and co., they've got close to the best defence in the comp.
“So, the Giants are my premiership pick right now and if they don't get any injuries in the next month, then I'll be locking them in.”
GWS have made one Grand Final in their 13-year history but have played finals in seven of the last nine campaigns.
The Giants begin their season with an Opening Round clash against Collingwood at Engie Stadium on Sunday, March 9.
