The Dragons have referred an incident to the NRL after a fan was kicked out of Kogarah Oval for an alleged homophobic slur towards referee Peter Gough.
As he walked from the field at half-time of the Dragons clash with Storm, Gough reported the incident to security who then escorted the spectator from the ground.
"It was quite surprising because the guy concerned is a long-time Dragons fan who has been coming to games for years," a Dragons official told Channel 9.
"He yelled out 'Gough, you are a f---ing cheating (homophoboc slur) and the referee stopped, looked him eye to eye, and then alerted security.
"They didn't muck around - they threw him straight out of the ground."
Today (Monday) the Dragons released a statement confirming the incident had been referred to the NRL and condemned the fan’s behaviour.
"The Dragons are aware of an incident in the round four match at Jubilee Stadium in which a patron was ejected for using inappropriate language," the statement said.
"The club has notified the NRL integrity unit and will now work with all relevant parties on next steps. As always, the Dragons condemn the use of abusive or discriminatory language or any other behaviour that makes anyone at our games feel unsafe."
