Draft Watch: The young gun drawing comparisons to the Bont
Round 12 of the Coates Talent League delivered another showcase of the emerging talent destined for the AFL next season.
Towering 201cm Rebels ruckman Flynn Penry was the standout performer of the round, amassing an impressive 24 disposals, 7 marks, 6 tackles, and 31 hit outs. Penry’s dominant display continues a string of strong performances and is certain to attract interest from AFL clubs in search of a long-term ruck prospect.
Sebastian Murphy, the brother of Adelaide’s Lachie Murphy, also impressed for the Knights, collecting a game-high 28 disposals, 8 inside 50s, and 7 marks. While not currently aligned with Adelaide, it’s clear that footballing talent runs deep in the Murphy family.
Potential first-round selection Thomas Burton put in yet another stellar performance, helping carry the Jets to their second win of the season. Burton finished with a game-high 28 disposals and 10 tackles, continuing his streak of 25+ disposals in every game this year.
Willem Duursma, who remains firmly in the conversation for the No. 1 pick, again demonstrated his class as a mid-forward. He finished with 21 disposals, 9 marks, and 2 goals, highlighting his versatility and influence around the ground, drawing comparisons to Marcus Bontempelli.
