Draft watch: Son of Carlton premiership defender bolsters draft stock in Coates Talent League
Round 9 of the Coates Talent League saw some standout performances by a number of youngsters trying to prove their case for the 2025 draft.
Carlton will be licking their lips at 193cm key-defender Harry Dean, who is the son of 248 game and two-time Carlton premiership player Peter Dean.
The emerging Dean impressed this round taking 10 marks and gathering 18 disposals, which are amazing numbers for a key back. This display adds to his growing list of eye-catching performances from the Murray Bushrangers defender.
Northern Knights skipper, Seb Murphy - who is the brother of Adelaide’s Lachie Murphy - had another impressive performance with 6 inside 50s, 5 tackles, 5 marks, and 21 disposals.
Western Jets defender Billy Wigmore was the round's best fantasy scorer, boasting 145 points, thanks to a whopping 16 marks, 30 disposals, and 4 tackles.
The 2025 U18 National Championship also kicked off on the weekend with South Australia clinching a 7-point victory against the Allies.
South Australian pair Mitch Marsh and Aidan Schubert were the standouts, with both towering forwards booting 4 goals each.
Potential top 10 pick and South Australia captain Dyson Sharp also put a shift in the midfield, having 5 clearances and 17 disposals.
For the Allies, Brisbane Academy midfielder Daniel Annable cleaned up yet again with 26 disposals, solidifying himself as a potential top 5 pick in the draft.
While teammates Koby Coulson (25 disposals), Dylan Patterson (23 disposals), and Beau Addinsall (7 clearances) who all come from the Suns Academy, equally dominated in the engine room for the Allies.
