Dees or Suns? Father-son prospect closing in on huge draft choice

Melbourne could be set to receive a big boost this month with father-son prospect Kalani White looking likely to nominate the Demons ahead of the 2025 Draft.
White, who is the son of former 236-game Melbourne ruckman Jeff, is tied to both the Demons and Gold Coast, where he is part of the Suns’ Academy, having spent the majority of his life growing up in the region.
Even though White could also nominate the Suns and remain on the Gold Coast, SEN’s Tom Morris is hearing that he’s leaning towards the Demons instead.
White has played two games for Casey in the VFL this season and has spent time training with the Demons, and Morris envisions the 198cm versatile tall to end up being bid on somewhere in the 20 to 40 draft pick range.
“He's in the Gold Coast Academy as well as being linked to Melbourne as a father-son,” Morris said on SEN Breakfast.
“His father is a former ruckman for Melbourne, Jeff White, and speaking to a couple of draft experts yesterday, his son is sort of seen as a 20 to 40 range in the upcoming National Draft.
“He's not necessarily a prodigy, but he's got great athletic abilities, and he's seen as a great prospect.
“My understanding here is that he hasn't formally done it (nominated), but he'll choose Melbourne rather than Gold Coast, which is great news for the Demons.
“Officially, they’re waiting until the end of August to make the call and have the chat, but everyone I speak to says that the Demons are on his radar more than the Suns.
“So that will be great for Melbourne to pick up another father-son player.”
As well as featuring for Casey this season, White played four games for the Allies in the National Championships and has played three games for Gold Coast in the Coates Talent League.
