De Minaur cruises through to third round with Aus Open statement performance
Alex De Minaur is through to the third round of the Australian Open after a comfortable 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 victory over USA’s Tristan Boyer.
The No. 8 seed gave up the first two games of the first set but quickly found his feet thereafter, winning eight straight games to claim the first set and go up a break in the second.
From there, the Aussie was simply too strong all over the court, winning 89 per cent of his points on first serve, 77 per cent of his points on second serve and converting six of his 14 break points.
SEN tennis expert Brett Phillips was incredibly impressed by De Minaur’s efficient work on Rod Laver Arena.
“Alex finishes in style and Rod Laver Arena stands as one to applaud a young man who just gives incredible value for money,” Phillips said on SEN Tennis.
“When you pay your ticket to come and watch Alex De Minaur play, you know you've got one hell of a competitor who brings such a strong skill set to the tennis court.
“He'd be very happy to get that done in straight sets.”

Fellow SEN Tennis caller Candy Reid thinks that De Minaur’s performance shows he has a chance to go all the way in his home major as he puts himself alongside the best players left in the men’s singles draw.
“That's the perfectionist that is Alex De Minaur, a nine-time titlist on the ATP Tour,” Reid said.
“He'd like nothing more than to win his home major and you've got to think he's got a decent chance.
“He's got to be in that next echelon after Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic in my mind. He's right up there with Alexander Zverev and perhaps Taylor Fritz as well.”
The Aussie next faces Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, the No. 31 seed, on Saturday.
