Chris Waller admits he does have some worries for Via Sistina in this weekendβs Cox Plate.
The star mare, who destroyed her rivals in track-record time by eight lengths in last yearβs Cox Plate, will likely start a short favourite in this yearβs edition.
However, in a small field sheβs going to need a cracking pace if she is to power over the top of her rivals.
And that is why Waller is a bit concerned.
βI am worried,β Waller told SENTrack & RSNβs Giddy Up.
βBut weβll ride our own race on Saturday. This is her Grand Final.
βShe needs to make her own luck, her own sectional times. Weβll do it, weβll be riding our own race.
βItβs the Cox Plate, itβs her Grand Final. Itβs like in any sport, it brings out good competition.
βTheyβll all think they can win a Cox Plate, theyβll get going early. Via wonβt miss the boat on Saturday.β
But Waller did find plenty of solace in the fact that Via Sistinaβs times and splits are just as they were 12 months ago.
βCompare her? Look, sheβs the same,β he said.
βShe hasn't won her last couple of runs, but if you break down the sectional times sheβs going as well.
βWe just havenβt had the pressure in the races that we would have liked, so subsequently she hasnβt won.
βBut sheβs going very well.β
Via Sistina, who will be ridden by James McDonald, is currently the $2.15 favourite with Sportsbet for Australiaβs premier weight-for-age race.
The barrier draw takes place later this morning.
