Cornes calls for “cuddly” Ross Lyon to unleash the beast after “rubbish” St Kilda performance

Kane Cornes wants to see Ross Lyon return to his prickly self, accusing the St Kilda coach of being too “cuddly” since his return to the club.
The Saints were blown out of the water by Port Adelaide in the AAMI Community Series and Cornes hopes Lyon rips the group apart.
“I think the balance has swung too far to the cuddly version of Ross when they wanted hard Ross,” Cornes told SEN Breakfast.
“Why do I say that? There’s a number of things he has said since he’s been in the job, he delegates to his assistant coaches so much more than he ever has, he didn’t even sit in on appointing Jared Rivers in the off-season, he may have been overseas
“And seeing what the Saints delivered on the weekend, it may have been a pre-season game, but conceding 128 uncontested marks, 21 marks inside 50, plus 167 uncontested possessions, but still lose the tackles by six – that’s not a Ross Lyon team.
“Is he too cuddly and does he need to get back to the hard, taskmaster that we know that he is and that makes him so good and that makes his players know what is required, because that was honestly rubbish what we saw, absolute rubbish.
“Does he come down really hard on them? Or does he go ‘yeah that’s alright, I’ll allow Corey Enright to do the review’ or is he going to get up there and put it on them. It’s unacceptable.
“I understand they were missing a few players, but their opposition was as well.”
The Saints open their 2025 campaign against the Crows in Adelaide, before meeting Geelong and Richmond both at Marvel Stadium in Rounds 2 and 3.
