Corey Parker calls for change to NRL start times

SEN’s Corey Parker has called on NRL administrators and broadcasters to fix the start times for Thursday and Friday night football.
Currently, the Thursday and Friday night matches begin at 8pm AEDT and 7pm in Queensland.
Parker believes this is a disadvantage for the NRL as a 7pm time slot is better for families and those who attend the match.
“In Queensland, by the time the game is finished, it’s not too late,” Parker said on SENQ Breakfast.
“It means that kids can watch the whole game and then go to bed. It’s not an issue.
“Why do we not bring games (in NSW) forward by one hour?
“State of Origin starts at 8.15pm and it then finishes at 11 o’clock. Kids’ eyeballs are hanging out and they don’t make it to the second half.
“It’s surely because of the dollars in the broadcasting deal.
“In Sydney, the news will start at 6pm so that the Sunday afternoon games at 4pm finish (on time).
“There have been instances where the game has gone into extra time and it cuts straight to the news.
“I’m still a massive believer in bringing the Grand Final to an afternoon like the AFL. The AFL do Grand Finals so much better than the NRL and has done for quite some time.

“Part of that is because they play in that 3-4pm time slot in the afternoon.
“It’s so that kids can enjoy it and don’t have to stay up late to watch it.
“It could be even later if you do go to the game.”
