Chiefs win NFL overtime clash as other star QBs injured

Harrison Butker kicked two field goals in overtime, the second a 40-yarder that Patrick Mahomes and Kenneth Walker III set up as time expired, giving the Kansas City Chiefs a 33-30 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Mahomes finished with 382 yards passing and three touchdowns on Monday (NZ Time), Walker ran for 117 yards, and Travis Kelce looked like a younger version of himself with nine catches for 101 yards and a score as the Chiefs improved to 2-0.
Daniel Jones had 210 yards passing with a touchdown and a pick for the Colts. Jonathan Taylor had 92 yards rushing and two TDs.

Earlier in the day, star quarterbacks Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams suffered injuries as their teams lost their week-two matchups.
Daniels dislocated his elbow in a 37-20 loss against Dallas, in which Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott celebrated breaking Tony Romo's career franchise record for touchdown passes in a victorious locker room.
Prescott's 249th TD pass was his second TD of the game to CeeDee Lamb, who had 153 yards receiving. Tight end Jake Ferguson had the other two scoring catches.
The Cowboys (1-1) led 17-10 with the Commanders on the Dallas 1-yard line with 3 seconds remaining in the first half, when left guard Chris Paul stepped on Daniels' foot as he backed away from centre, and Daniels' non-throwing elbow appeared to bend the wrong way as he braced himself and threw a wild pass that was incomplete as time expired.
Daniels stayed down momentarily, then started to walk to the sideline before going to the turf again. Upon seeing a video replay of the injury, Fox NFL analyst Tom Brady uttered a profanity.
Daniels' head was covered in a towel as he left the field on a cart several minutes after all the Dallas players and most of the Washington players had gone to their locker rooms.

After the game, Commanders coach Dan Quinn confirmed the dislocation but said imaging showed no fracture and that Daniels would fly home with the team.
Daniels, who was replaced by Marcus Mariota, missed all but one game in the second half of last season after dislocating his left elbow in a blowout loss to Seattle last November.
In Chicago, Bears quarterback Caleb Williams left their 9-3 loss to Minnesota in the fourth quarter with a right hamstring injury.

Williams got hurt on a scramble deep in Minnesota territory with about seven minutes left. The No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft was helped off the wet field on a rainy afternoon at Soldier Field.
"I mean you could kind of see in real time. I'm actually happy it's nothing with the knee," Bears coach Ben Johnson said.
"That was my first inclination. But yeah, a hamstring can be pretty damaging as well. We'll see how bad it is tomorrow and we'll go from there. It's quickly you've got to turn the page."

Also on Monday, Trey Smack kicked a 26-yard field goal in overtime and the Green Bay Packers overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit and a sloppy, penalty-filled performance to snap a six-game skid with a 20-17 victory over the New York Jets.
Elsewhere, the New England Patriots smothered Aaron Rodgers on the way to a 20-3 win over Pittsburgh, and the Panthers thumped the Falcons 34-3.
In Denver, the Broncos limited Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville offence to three points in the second half — and none over the final 24 minutes — allowing Bo Nix to stage a comeback as the Broncos rallied for a 20-13.
