Champion Data have identified the players who have improved and who have fallen away so far in season 2025.
After a sample size of six rounds, the biggest risers and fallers from a player ratings point of view have become clearer, according to lead analyst Daniel Hoyne.
He went through the top 10 risers and top 10 fallers on SEN’s Sportsday.
The 10 biggest risers
1 - Paul Curtis (North Melbourne)
“He’s risen 215 places on our ratings system this year to be the 15th highest rated player in the comp after Round 6.”
2 - Seth Campbell (Richmond)
“Seth Campbell has risen 210 places this year, into the top 35 players in the competition.”
3 - Steele Sidebottom (Collingwood)
“We’ve mentioned Steele Sidebottom a bit. Currently the 42nd highest rated player in the competition. He’s risen 179 places to actually have his best season so far since 2016.”
4 - Mark Blicavs (Geelong)
“He has risen 175 places this year. You see him on Monday and he’s playing on the wing. He’s been playing full-back all year then Round 6 you see him on the wing, what an asset to have.”
5 - Tom Brown (Richmond)
“He’s going really well, has risen 173 places this year.”
6 - Matt Kennedy (Western Bulldogs)
“He’s risen 155 places to the top 20 players in the compeititon so far.”
7 - Connor Rozee (Port Adelaide)
“We want to give this guy a bit of recognition. I put him on the agenda last year and earlier this year about how impactful he has been.
“So far this year he has risen 148 places. Right now he’s having his best year that we have seen on our ratings system. Hats off to Ken and Rozee for what he has been able to do.”
8 - Jack Darling (North Melbourne)
“This is an interesting one. He has risen 144 places. Still outside the top 100 players so he’s not shooting the lights out, but he’s doing better than what he was doing at West Coast the year before.”
9 - Bailey Humphrey (Gold Coast)
“He has risen 143 places this year.”
10 - Lloyd Meek (Hawthorn)
“Meek has risen 138 places.”
The 10 biggest fallers
1 - Sam Flanders (Gold Coast)
“Flanders has dropped 271 places this year. Last year he was used across half-back, mid, last couple of games across half-forward.
“In 2025 so far he has predominantly been used across the half-forward line.”
2 - Harry Sheezel (North Melbourne)
“Sheezel has dropped 242 places this year. Why he has dropped from the 11th best player in the comp last year to 253rd - all down to how he is using the footy.
“The impact with ball in hand this year is 324th. I think he needs to get back to the half-back flank and get some creativity.”
3 - Andrew McGrath (Essendon)
“McGrath has dropped 217 places. He’s actually having his worst season.”
4 - Aaron Naughton (Western Bulldogs)
“He has dropped 214 places. It will be interesting to see how that goes over the next three months now (with Sam Darcy injured).”
5 - Jarman Impey (Hawthorn)
“Has dropped 211 places. A bit of everything (both winning the footy and using it) in that.”
6 - Tyson Stengle (Geelong)
“This is all down to how he is using it. He’s dropped 210 places, so that’s a bit of a positive if you’re a Geelong supporter in that offensively they’re going well and this bloke hasn’t really fired a shot yet.”
7 - Rowan Marshall (St Kilda)
“He has dropped 206 places. He was a top-100 player last year and has been for a couple of years. Now he’s 299th in the comp.”
8 - Blake Acres (Carlton)
“I don’t think Carlton supporters would be too surprised by this - Acres has dropped 205 places. It’s all down to how he is using the footy.”
9 - Lachie Neale (Brisbane)
“This one is interesting as well. Neale has dropped 202 places this year. 41st in the comp last year, 243rd in the comp this year. How he’s using the footy? 255th in the competition.”
10 - Sam Clohesy (Gold Coast)
“He has dropped 198 spots. Ironically he was dropped on the weekend.”
