Champion Data's Daniel Hoyne has collated the best ball movement sides in the AFL entering the bye rounds in 2025.
The data calculation continues to suggest that the manner in which teams move the ball is crucial in overall success.
Champion Data's ball movement data accounts for the ability for teams to move the ball in both the front and back half, combining the two to deduct an overall ranking for ball moving ability.
Over the last decade, every team to win the premiership has ranked within the top six at the mid-way point of the season.
“2025 footy, it’s how you use it,” Hoyne told SEN’s Sportsday.
“The ball movement game is everything, it is 75 per cent of overall scoring. If you can’t move it in September, forget about your campaign for this season.
“We’re looking at scoring that happens right across the ground, taking out centre bounce, and forward half stoppage.
“Go back and run the exercise for 10 years at this stage of the season, Round 11, the premier has sat top six every year for 10 years in a row."
