Can Penrith’s aura help achieve a purr-fect 5-peat?

Scott Sattler and Andrew Webster both believe that the Penrith Panthers are still capable of completing a five-peat following Friday night's 30-10 win against South Sydney.
Having played in every grand final this decade and won four of them in a row, this generation of Panthers players, led by Nathan Cleary and Isaah Yeo, will go down as one of the greatest dynasties the sport has seen.
But this season has been a lot different to the previous five. The Panthers were struggling massively to find form and were sitting in 17th by the end of Round 12, with the dynasty appearing to be over.
However, within the space of eight weeks, they have peeled off six straight wins to now be in the top eight and look like the Penrith of old.
And now, Sattler, who won a premiership with the Panthers back in 2003, thinks that given their experience in finals, they still have what it takes to win a fifth consecutive premiership.
“Yeah, absolutely,” Sattler said on SEN’s Saturday League Kick-Off.
“They can, based on the aura…and it doesn’t matter if they finish 5th or 6th, cause a home elimination/semi-final to them is irrelevant.
“And they’ve got players that know how to win and how to prepare.”
Webster added on to Sattler’s point, noting that the Penrith players who featured for New South Wales in this year's State of Origin would have extra motivation that they'll channel into the club games.
“When Queensland lose (in Origin), those Melbourne Storm Queenslanders usually rise to the occasion and they go pretty close (to winning),” he explained.
“I reckon that could be the case for Penrith. That will be the motivation for the likes of (Liam) Martin. (Dylan) Edwards, Cleary, Yeo and (Brian) To’o.
“They go to a new level, and they are a different team in September, and that’s how they approach it.”
Penrith has an interesting finish to the season to try and confirm their spot in the top eight.
In the next three weeks, they face the Tigers, Titans and Knights, which they will likely be favourites for in all three games.
Following that, they’ll have to run the gauntlet against three of the current top four sides facing the Storm, Raiders and Bulldogs before concluding their home and away season against St George Illawarra.
