"Absolute mess": Cornes takes aim at Essendon board
Having looked on the right track, Essendon is once again an "absolute mess", according to Kane Cornes after coach Brad Scott was sacked.
With just one win to their name since May 23rd 2025 and a dismal run of form in recent weeks, the Bombers are understood to have pulled the trigger on their coach of four years on Monday night.
"I can’t imagine what he (Scott) is feeling right now," SEN's Cornes said. "I can’t imagine what he thinks the club thought he could have done better given the situation he has been put in.
"It’s an unusual football club, Essendon. They had one strategy which was to go to the draft which they did and thought they were on the right track. About this time last year they were one game out of the eight and everyone started to get injured.
"Senior players started to sook it up and then at the ned of the year, Zach Merrett wants to blow the whole joint up and get out.
"It’s been a bit more of the same this year. Instability it seems at board level, they lost a few assistant coaches, players get upset again and feel like they could be in a better environment.
"You win one game and then it’s all over. From a club that was definitely on the right track to a club that is once again in an absolute mess. It is extraordinary the way that Essendon has been run for a long time."
It is expected that Dean Solomon will be named as interim coach of the Dons.
__Fireball's Cornes and David King will release an emergency podcast in the coming hours.
