'Borderline arrogance': McHardy calls out South Africa's reaction to Test loss

New Zealand's stunning 33-16 humbling of South Africa in Johannesburg marked the greatest win by an All Black team at Ellis Park, ending the Springboks' 12-test winning streak.
For New Zealand, it was a masterclass in exploiting opposition weaknesses. But according to Sport Nation host and commentator Daniel McHardy, the reaction from South African fans and content creators tells a story of borderline delusion.
Despite enduring 23 turnovers, the Springbok post-match narrative has been surprisingly self-centered with a belief that Rassie Erasmus' side will be the only one to improve.

McHardy notes that South African pundits are displaying a "lingering smell of hubris," obsessing over their own while completely ignoring the threat facing them: the All Blacks can also be better.
"It’s all they see, themselves," McHardy observed, highlighting the "arrogance" of a South African side that spurned easy points, overplayed their hand with scrums close to the All Blacks' line, and ultimately folded into dysfunction.
Instead of acknowledging the All Blacks' clinical efficiency when it mattered - where they averaged near four points per 22-entry compared to the Boks' less than a point average - the local punditocracy insists that merely catching the ball and fixing minor mistakes will guarantee future victories against the tourists.
McHardy warns that unless this "narcissistic" introspection gives way to genuine tactical adaptation, the Springboks could face another long afternoon. Luckily, Rassie would be more aware of the Springboks' imperfections.
