Blues great “super proud” as son earns Carlton debut for Round 1 blockbuster
Carlton great Scott Camporeale admits that he still hasn’t really wrapped his head around his son Lucas being named for his Blues debut in Thursday’s Round 1 blockbuster against Richmond at the MCG.
Taken at pick No. 54 in last year’s draft, the father-son prospect has done enough in his first summer at Ikon Park to earn a spot in the club’s best 23 and Lucas phoned his parents immediately after receiving the good news on Sunday.
Scott, who played 233 games for the club including the 1995 premiership, has had his fingers crossed for Lucas after he had 20 disposals in the Community Series win over GWS, and those hopes came to fruition yesterday.
“It’s still a bit surreal,” Camporeale told SEN Mornings.
“It hasn't probably really sunk in yet, but we’re proud of him and looking forward to the game on Thursday.
“It has been a big, I guess, 7 or 8 days, and obviously after the GWS game, we had our fingers crossed that he may get an opportunity.
“It was a nice phone call to have. I guess once your son or daughter gets drafted, you fast forward a little bit and hopefully you get that call, and we got it yesterday.
“It was a great moment that the club shared with us.”

It’s not only Lucas that Scott will be keeping a keen eye on in navy blue this year, with his other son Ben - Lucas’ twin, also being added to Carlton’s list last off-season via pick No. 43 in the 2024 Draft.
Camporeale hopes that the duo’s competitiveness and drive helps them make it at the top level as he passes along the knowledge he acquired over more than a decade at the top level to his sons.
“He's a great kid. Ben's very much like my wife, and Lucas is probably a little bit more like me in personality,” Camporeale said.
“But they're both very driven and super competitive, he's a real team-orientated player and sometimes it's a thankless role on the wing in the modern-day game, but, he's sort of grabbed it with both hands and embraced it.
“He's had his moments through the nationals and all those sort of things … he's a great teammate, he’ll do anything for the team and he hasn't left a stone unturned really in the last three years.”
