It was the week of the 62nd Halberg Awards where New Zealand celebrated an incredible 2024 for Kiwi sport, with Hamish Kerr winning Sportsman of the Year, while Dame Lydia Ko took home the double of Sportswoman of the Year and the Supreme Halberg award.
But that wasn't the only big story captivating hosts Scotty Stevenson and Israel Dagg throughout the week, with Super Rugby Pacific opening their season with a bang, the NZ Warriors running wild in Hamilton against an understrength Storm side, and the Blackcaps got their Champions Trophy campaign off to the best possible start.
This is the best interviews from the week that was on Scotty & Izzy.
Albert Vete
Former NZ Warriors and Melbourne Storm prop Albert Vete joined Monday’s show following the pre-season match between his two former sides where the Warriors came out on top 36-10.
Dame Lydia Ko
We were lucky enough to catch up with Dame Lydia Ko on Wednesday morning, who capped off a remarkable 2024 with both the Sportswoman of the Year and the Supreme Award at Tuesday night’s Halbergs.
Mitchell Santner
Blackcaps white-ball captain Mitchell Santner joined us from Pakistan on Thursday after their dominant start to the Champions Trophy, beating the host nation by 60 runs in the opening match, with Tom Latham top-scoring on 118 not out, backed up by Will Young's 107.
The Return of Smithy!
We also caught up with our very own Ian Smith that morning to get his thoughts on New Zealand’s impressive start to the tournament. 'The Doyen' is currently overseas commentating the tournament for the ICC and will return to his Mornings show on Sport Nation alongside Riccardo Ball next month.
