“Be a man”: Luai opens up on Origin snub
Jarome Luai has said he will be a man about not being selected to represent the NSW Blues in Game I after he was dropped for Mitch Moses by coach Laurie Daley.
Admitting he was disappointed to miss out having been so central to NSW series victory in 2024, Luai said it would only light the fire in him to win the No 6 jersey back from Mitchell Moses.
“Disappointed – and I think if I wasn’t I would probably be scared,” Luai said.
“I am disappointed because I know what I am missing out on. But I’m probably still more disappointed about the result tonight.
“I am in control of the selection at the end of the day. Looking at my form and way I have been playing, I know I can be better.
“It is just about owning that now and moving forward. At the end of the day just be a man about it all.”
The Wests Tigers captain said he had received a personal call from Daley before the squad was made public and he is confident this won’t be a series snub.
His omission phone call came just moments after Luai’s side were beaten 12-22 by the Rabbitohs on Sunday night.
“I heard what I needed to hear and I am content with it because I know I am in control of the selection at the end of the day,” he said.
“I am still figuring out what my best is so I am looking forward to that process and I have a bit of work to do on my game.
“He just said I’m going to leave you out of game one and stay ready. Which I will be. I am going to use this time to refresh.
“We have the bye now. Refresh, reset and just keep working on my game. It is probably a bit of a mental thing right now where I can get better.”
