Ellis ruled out of BBL finals, World Cup in doubt
Hobart Hurricanes captain Nathan Ellis has been ruled out of the remainder of BBL15 with injury, placing his T20 World Cup campaign in doubt.
Ellis has been ruled out due to hamstring tightness after missing Wednesday’s Knockout final.
He had hoped to recover in time for tonight’s Challenger final against the Sydney Sixers, but has been unable to overcome the injury, ruling him out for the rest of the tournament.
Hobart are already without Test player Jake Weatherald, who has chosen to prioritise Sheffield Shield cricket after the Ashes, and Chris Jordan remains hampered.
Ellis will be hoping to recover in time for Australia’s T20 World Cup, which begins on February 8 in India and Sri Lanka.
Batter Charlie Wakim replaces Ellis in the 14‑man squad for the Challenger, while Ben McDermott will lead the side in his absence.
Sixers’ star Babar Azam yesterday announced his departure from the BBL to return to Pakistan to prepare for international duty.
