The opening day of the Australian Open saw no upsets as the top seeds survived their first round matchups, including 6th seed Casper Ruud's 5-set thriller against the unseeded Jaume Munar in the men's draw, plus top seed Aryna Sabalenka advancing with a straight sets victory over Sloane Stephens in the women's singles.
Day 2 brings more action to Melbourne with 11th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas currently facing Alex Michaelsen, 17th seed Frances Tiafoe playing Arthir Rinderknech in the men's singles, and women's 3rd seed Coco Gauff on centre court against fellow American Sofia Kenin.
