India pulled off a record breaking ODI chase to knock seven-time champions Australia out of the Womenβs World Cup.
Jemimah Rodrigues hit an unbeaten 127 to help her side reach 339 with nine balls to spare to win by five wickets and secure their spot in the final against South Africa.
It brings an end to Australiaβs 15-game win streak and marks the first time that neither Australia or England have been in a World Cup final.
A turning point in the match saw Rodrigues survive a dropped catch on 82 by Australiaβs Alyssa Healy.
βI mean, good contest in the end,β Healy said afterwards. βProbably reflecting on that, we did that to ourselves a little bit. Itβs probably the first time that Iβve felt like weβve done that.
βSo, we probably didnβt finish off with a bat, didnβt roll that great, and dropped all our chances in the field and still hung in there until the second-last over. So, I mean, we can take something out of that, but ultimately outdone in the end.
βI thought, you know, we half done the job. I thought we probably left a few out there at the back end, fell away a little bit in the last ten.
βBut in saying that, 338, still a good wicket. I thought if we could execute with the ball, hold on to our chances, we were well in the game.
βWe just werenβt able to capitalise on that. But it is what it isβ.
Incredibly, Rodrigues survived another dropped catch on 106, this time through Tahlia McGrath.
βFirstly, I want to thank Jesus, because I couldnβt do this on my own. I know he carried me through today,β Rodrigues said.
βIt was really hard these last four months, but it just feels like a dream and itβs not sunk in yet,β added Rodrigues, who was promoted to number three for a second time in three matches.
βTowards the end, I was just quoting a scripture from the Bible - to just stand still and that God will fight for me. I just stood there, and he fought for me.β
