Anton Segner extends NZ Rugby contract through to end of 2031

All Blacks loose forward Anton Segner has signed a four-year contract extension with New Zealand Rugby through to the end of 2031.
The 25-year-old is the first All Black to sign through to the 2031 Rugby World Cup in America, stating his commitment to NZR, the Blues and Auckland's NPC side.
“Signing a long extension with the Blues, Auckland Rugby and New Zealand Rugby gives me a long-term idea of where I’ll be playing my rugby and there’s no place I’d rather be than here in Auckland,” Segner said in a statement.
“I have spent a huge chunk of my life in the ‘09 and it’s that place that has given me so many opportunities. This is my home away from home and I absolutely love it here.
"I’m very grateful to have been given this opportunity. Playing under Alfie (Blues head coach Jason Holland) is something that excited me as well as the direction of New Zealand Rugby as a whole, so it was a no brainer.”

Born in Frankfurt, Segner moved to New Zealand in 2017 as a 15-year-old exchange student at Nelson College. He made his All Blacks debut in July this year, helping the side to a 47–17 win over Italy at Wellington's Hnry Stadium.
His international season has included two Test caps and strong performances against the Stormers and Bulls before an ankle injury ended his South Africa tour early.
Segner has represented the Blues 54 times since 2022 and made 17 Auckland appearances in the Hilux NPC since 2024. He captained the Blues in 2026 and has also led New Zealand Secondary Schools, Crusaders U20s and Auckland’s NPC team.
All Blacks head coach Dave Rennie has praised Segner's decision.
"Anton's a great example of what this jersey means to people," Rennie said.
"He left home at 15, backed himself, and has worked incredibly hard to get where he is. Committing through to 2031 shows how much he wants to be part of this team.
“Anton is a hell of an athlete and has physical presence both sides of the ball. His anticipation post-tackle, versatility and work ethic are genuine points of difference. This is a great signing for New Zealand Rugby.”
