Former All Blacks captain Stu Wilson has died, aged 70.
The mercurial Wilson was a star on and off the field.
A centre or wing, he played 85 games for the All Blacks - 34 of those test matches, and would captain the side eight times.
Off the field he was renowned as one of the voices of rugby commentary for many years on television and radio.
Wilson’s impact wasn’t just measured in tries or test caps, it was in the way he carried himself, and the way he made others feel.
Ofisa Tonu’u’s words on Sport Nation's Scotty and Izzy this morning captured that perfectly.
“I was a ball boy at Athletic Park, that was my spiritual home ground when I was growing up in Wellington, and he (Stu) used to always come down to thank the ball boys.
"And I would think, wow, whether it was for one of the college old boys or for Wellington, the Lions or even the All Blacks. He was really one of those players that was engaged with people around him, and I thought, oh man, I really want to be like him.”
More to come.
