With rival clubs circling his stars, Carlton coach Michael Voss has delivered an emphatic message to potential poachers about the future of Mitch McGovern and Jack Silvagni.
Both are out of contract at season’s end and have been linked with moves away from Ikon Park, but the coach is adamant he doesn’t want them to leave.
McGovern has been touted for a move West be it with West Coast or Fremantle while there is a three-horse race between Collingwood, Essendon and the Western Bulldogs for Silvagni.
Since picking up a hamstring injury earlier this season, 30-year-old McGovern has struggled to get back into Voss’ best 23 and has instead taken up residence in the VFL.
"While he's probably more on the back end of his career, rather than the front end, he's shown over the last couple of years that, some of the concerns he had around his body, there's less of those," Voss said of McGovern.
"There's nothing wrong with earning your right on the way back in.
"Being one of the older players and seeing some of the younger players playing well... the only conversations I've had is that he's been excited by what he's seen, but he's also desperate to play.
"By not playing, clearly he's disappointed in not being able to do that."
When it comes to third generation Silvagni, things are not as straightforward given reports he has met with the three aforementioned clubs.
Voss admits Silvagni has "been busy" but that he remains "really confident" they will come to an agreement.
“We’re at the end of the season, and they haven’t signed yet,” Voss said.
“If you’re lacking any confidence, it’s probably around that, but in terms of needs and want to have them, we’d love for them to stay.
“But we’re also realistic in where we sit in the season.”
The Blues are next in action against Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
