Trade talk: Port superstar floats trade to Victoria
Port Adelaide superstar Zak Butters has floated the idea of a trade to Victoria.
With just a year remaining on his current deal, Butters presents as one of the hottest commodities within the AFL’s trade space, with murmurs of his desire to return home looming within the walls at Port Adelaide.
Despite confirming on numerous occasions that he will remain at the Power in 2026, 7AFL’s Mitch Cleary has reported that the star midfielder asked the question surrounding a move within the upcoming trade period.
The Western Bulldogs – Butters’ childhood team – have been extremely keen on securing the services of the 25-year-old, with money to spend on a contract that could extend over the next eight years.
That said, Port Adelaide were emphatic in their response to Butters’ floated request, stating in no uncertain terms that under no circumstances would the star man be traded.
While Butters enters 2026 on an expiring deal, Port Adelaide maintain the ability to match any offer put to the midfielder within the free agency window, meaning a trade would be required if Butters were to demand an exit.
The official 2025 Trade Period kicks off on Monday, the 6th of October.
