Cloggers? Cornes questions Port Adelaideβs recruiting strategy

Kane Cornes wonders what Port Adelaideβs recruiting plan is.
Departing Fremantle midfielder Will Brodie, who has not played a senior game in the last two seasons, is set to reunite with former Dockers assistant Josh Carr at the Power.
Giants free agent Jacob Wehr is also destined for Alberton while there are suggestions that Gold Coastβs Brayden Fiorini is on the clubβs radar.
But Cornes cannot understand why Port is going after three players aged 27 or older.
βI donβt want to be too critical, but I see that Port Adelaide have signed Jacob Wehr who is a 27-year-old from the Giants,β Cornes said on SENβs Fireball.
βPlayed 39 games in four years, 14 games this year and had 20 disposals twice.
βI see they signed Will Brodie who is also 27. Heβs played five games in then last three seasons and heβs going to be competing for a spot with Ollie Wines and Willem Drew who play exactly the same position.
βBrodie wasnβt able to play in Fremantleβs midfield for the best part of the last three seasons.
βThen I see theyβre in to Brayden Fiorini who is 28 and has played 22 games in 10 years.
βAre we just topping up with cloggers, or what? What is going on? What is the strategy?
βMaybe Fiorini is in their best 22, but the other two arenβt. Are we just recruiting to make their SANFL team stronger?
βI just call it as I see it. Do you agree with those additions?β
Co-host David King was also struggling to work out what the Power are playing at.
King said: βIβm with you. 27 is too old to be getting in.
βAre they in a rebuild?β
Cornes added: βWell, clearly not because you donβt go for two 27-year-olds and one 28-year-old if you are.β
The Power finished 13th in 2025 with a 9-14 record in Ken Hinkleyβs final season at the helm.
Carr has now taken over as they look towards the future after 13 season with Hinkley in charge.
