Cloggers? Cornes questions Port Adelaide’s recruiting strategy

Kane Cornes wonders what Port Adelaide’s recruiting plan is.
Departing Fremantle midfielder Will Brodie, who has not played a senior game in the last two seasons, is set to reunite with former Dockers assistant Josh Carr at the Power.
Giants free agent Jacob Wehr is also destined for Alberton while there are suggestions that Gold Coast’s Brayden Fiorini is on the club’s radar.
But Cornes cannot understand why Port is going after three players aged 27 or older.
“I don’t want to be too critical, but I see that Port Adelaide have signed Jacob Wehr who is a 27-year-old from the Giants,” Cornes said on SEN’s Fireball.
“Played 39 games in four years, 14 games this year and had 20 disposals twice.
“I see they signed Will Brodie who is also 27. He’s played five games in then last three seasons and he’s going to be competing for a spot with Ollie Wines and Willem Drew who play exactly the same position.
“Brodie wasn’t able to play in Fremantle’s midfield for the best part of the last three seasons.
“Then I see they’re in to Brayden Fiorini who is 28 and has played 22 games in 10 years.
“Are we just topping up with cloggers, or what? What is going on? What is the strategy?
“Maybe Fiorini is in their best 22, but the other two aren’t. Are we just recruiting to make their SANFL team stronger?
“I just call it as I see it. Do you agree with those additions?”
Co-host David King was also struggling to work out what the Power are playing at.
King said: “I’m with you. 27 is too old to be getting in.
“Are they in a rebuild?”
Cornes added: “Well, clearly not because you don’t go for two 27-year-olds and one 28-year-old if you are.”
The Power finished 13th in 2025 with a 9-14 record in Ken Hinkley’s final season at the helm.
Carr has now taken over as they look towards the future after 13 season with Hinkley in charge.
