If the Zach Merrett move to Hawthorn is dead and buried, then is there still time for Sam Mitchell to bolster his squad from who is available?
While some have murmured the name Jordan De Goey, Kane Cornes is keen to see them make a "Gold Coast-style" move (referring to Damien Hardwick's olive branch to Jamarra Ugle-Hagan) to bring about an Elijah Hollands redemption story.
Speaking on AFL Trade Radio, Cornes said: "I would rather them (Hawthorn) go Elijah Hollands than go after Jordan De Goey, take a Gold Coast style punt that you can turn this guy’s life around.
"You get him for nothing, put some behavioural clauses in his contract and if it doesn’t work you tear it up and that’s it.
"I would rather them do that before De Goey; he will cost you a first-round pick, you don’t need to do that.
"I think Hawthorn have left it too late to make a significant move (in the trade period)."
Hollands has endured a year of off-field troubles through 2025 and Carlton have said they are open to delisting, trading or paying out his contract but that no decision would be made until after the trade window.
