Snapshot of 14 players still in trade calculations

Tom Morris has provided a snapshot of where some of the remaining trades sit right now.
The deadline for the AFL Trade Period is on Wednesday night and plenty is expected to happen between now and then.
Catch up on the latest on 14 players below:
CHRISTIAN PETRACCA
Gold Coast will give 7 and 8 to Melbourne, providing they get 24 back. If this happens, it essentially means Melbourne will lose Petracca and McVee for 7 and 8… That’s a pretty good deal.
As much as Melbourne would have loved Bailey Humphrey to be part of this deal, I think that's been a nice wish but is off the table entirely.
I would imagine Melbourne says we're not going to give you 24 back. We'll give you a slightly later pick back. They might want to give 28 back or 42 back.
That negotiation is going on and it's a pretty healthy negotiation. It will happen, Petracca will be a Gold Coast Suns player next year.
But I think this one goes deep into deadline day.
ZACH MERRETT
The expectation is that either Merrett or his manager will speak to Essendon as early as today and make it clear that he wants to join Hawthorn, in a more formal sense.
There were lots of chats last week behind the scenes, but Merrett’s resolve hasn’t changed. How public he goes over the next 48 hours depends on how understanding Essendon is of this desire.
In terms of a deal, expect a third club to get involved to give Hawthorn more trade capital to pry Merrett out of the Bombers. At least that’s Tom Petroro’s aim. Everyone around this situation knows Hawthorn has one, absolute max two cracks at it. And I’ll say it again, Essendon will trade him, provided the deal is exceptional.
What does that look like? Two first-rounders and something else is a starting point.
ROWAN MARSHALL
Rowan Marshall is still committed to Geelong. He doesn’t want to go back to Moorabbin. And the Cats are still exploring ways to bring him in. Whether St Kilda is receptive to any of this at the crunch remains to be seen.
If Pick 19 doesn’t do it, what will? St Kilda might end up asking for a future first. Then it’s up to the Cats to blink.
CHARLIE CURNOW
Sydney has spent all weekend navigating complexities around asking contracted players if they would be open to leaving.
They know if they get this part wrong, it can have an impact on dressing room culture.
They are working out what is enough for Carlton to twitch? Bearing in mind the Blues’ answer isn’t ‘no’, it’s ‘only if you give us something good’.
So the door is ajar. Does Pick 11, a future 1st, and Will Hayward + Ollie Florent get it done?
It’s pretty clear now Sydney is trying to move Florent, regardless of Curnow. Hayward wants to stay, so it’s a tough game convincing him otherwise as he travels South America.
The plan is for Curnow to fly up to Sydney as early as this morning to see the facilities. The Swans know this is go time, which is why they haven’t rushed putting something half-baked together.
And although Curnow’s preference is Geelong, he wouldn’t say no to Sydney if that happens.
CLAYTON OLIVER
The more Melbourne pays, the better pick they expect. They might be able to get Pick 35 or 37 off GWS, but I think it’s very likely Oliver gets to the Giants for a future third-rounder.
CALLUM AH CHEE
Brisbane have asked for Pick 16 or a Future 1st for Ah Chee, who has agreed to a five-year deal at the Crows. Brisbane list boss Dom Ambrogio drafted Ah Chee at the Suns and rates him highly, but he doesn’t have a lot of bargaining power given he’s out of contract.
Ah Chee told Brisbane two months ago so they’d have time to prepare for exactly this scenario.
Adelaide won’t budge on a future second-round pick, given they currently don’t have a second-round selection in this year’s draft.
This is a classic 'who blinks first?'. Brisbane don’t have much else on so they may as well push it deep, while the Crows would back themselves to take Ah Chee via the pre-season draft if needed.
JY SIMPKIN
Collingwood will only take him on their terms. Two first-round draft picks is definitely at least one too many from the Pies’ perspective, and maybe two.
I reckon if Collingwood had a first-rounder this year in the late teens they’d use it. But they don’t. So it will take some work to bring one in.
I can’t see how this happens but there are smarter minds than me working on it.
THE BIG STORIES
Gold Coast - They’ve traded Malcolm Rosas Jnr (Sydney), Ben Ainsworth (Carlton) and will soon trade Brayden Fiorini to Essendon. They have missed out on Jamie Elliott, but will get Petracca, and - pending board approval - will get JAMARRA UGLE-HAGAN for a very late pick and a reduced salary.
St Kilda - Do they have a rabbit up their sleeve? They’ve already got Tom De Koning, Jack Silvagni, Sam Flanders and Liam Ryan.
The excuse that they didn’t have the draft picks for Leek Aleer was just folly. The truth is they either didn’t have the money or didn’t want to spend it on him anymore. We know this because if they did, they’d take him via the pre-season draft, knowing no other club would pay that much.
A couple to keep an eye on:
JORDAN DE GOEY - I’m convinced if a club came with an excellent deal for Jordan De Goey, Collingwood would seriously look at it. Would De Goey? I think he’d prefer to stay. It’s still a long shot - but I’m keeping an eye on it.
IVAN SOLDO - Watch for a late trade with Port Adelaide if Marshall gets to Geelong.
JACK STEELE - Wants to stay and as yet, no legitimate interest. Which suits him.
STEVEN MAY - Same as above.
LEEK ALEER - North Melbourne is looking at it. Is there another club? He’s still in Europe, so would need to hurry to get home to do a medical.
WILL BRODIE - This will happen. He’ll get to Port Adelaide for a late pick.
