Clayton Oliver is officially a Giant, securing a move from Melbourne in exchange for a future third-round pick following a bewildering trade period for the Dees' midfielder.
Despite expressing his desire to remain at the club, the contracted midfielder was told by the club that they would be looking to shift Oliver's on-field role in 2026 under new coach Steven King, expressing that the 28-year-old must be prepared to play an outside role, or face time in the VFL.
Unhappy with the ongoings of the meeting, Oliver opted to explore his options, with Melbourne agreeing that it would be best for the midfielder to find a new home and would be willing to facilitate a trade to his desired home - even opting to contribute to his hefty wages for the remainder of his contract that runs through to 2030.
Both GWS and Collingwood expressed real interest, however it was the Giants that emerged as the heavy favourites, with Oliver nominating the Sydney-siders in the lead up to the final week of trade period.
With the Demons negotiating peacefully with the Giants, the two sides agreed on a deadline day deal that sees the Dees receive a future third-round pick.
The 205-game Demon will provide a significant boost to GWS' midfield, while Melbourne move on significant money from their books as they look to reset under a new administration.
