State of play: Where the Curnow trade sits
Where does the Charlie Curnow deal sit right now?
The star forward remains keen to get out of Carlton with either Geelong or Sydney the most likely landing spots.
Sam Edmund and Kane Cornes gave an oversight of where a potential move is at and how it could still come about in the final few days before Wednesday night’s deadline.
“This is how it sits - he wants to join Geelong, he approached them in May,” Edmund said on AFL Trade Radio.
“I was told on the weekend that he is being paid somewhere in the vicinity of $1 million to $1.1 million at the moment.
“He’s willing to take a haircut to sit between $800,000 and $900,000 over the course of his next four years. So basically shelving a million bucks just to get out of Carlton and get to Geelong.

“The Cats though, despite murmurings of Gryan Miers, Ollie Henry, Ollie Dempsey, Shannon Neale, etcetera, have only offered picks. We saw that three first-rounder offer last week was as good as they could do.
“Enormous for them. That’s a farm sell - three first-round picks.”
So where does it all sit since that Cats offer? Cornes and Edmund broke it all down.
Cornes: “People are sort of laughing at this offer that it’s not enough.
“Well, it’s not enough. But it’s still a pretty good start and shows that they’re genuinely serious to get this done.
“You can’t offer any more in terms of picks.”
Edmund: “That’s a huge risk when you think about it. That’s three first-round picks for three years. It’s massive for them.
“By virtue of their excellence it was never going to cut the mustard for Carlton. For them (the Cats) it was a big commitment.”
Edmund floated some of the Swans names that are in the mix for a potential trade with the Blues.
“Sydney isn’t Curnow’s first choice but he’s open to it. He hasn’t toured the facilities yet,” he continued.
“They’ve got a willingness to offer players. Names don’t come up by accident. Will Hayward, James Rowbottom, Tom Papley’s been discussed, Ollie Florent we’ve known about for months and months.
“Sydney also have first-rounders this year and next. They’ve just got the tools and a propensity, it would appear, to involve players which has to have them at the front of the queue.
“He’s been sold a vision, I’m told. I don’t know Sydney that well but you can get your anonymity, you can get to the beaches.
“There’s a few of the guys on e-scooters and town bikes and you can get into the club pretty quickly.”
Cornes worries that throwing in loved players such as Rowbottom, Hayward and Florent can start to pick away at the fabric of the club.
“Whether that just starts to chip away at your culture a little bit when you’re forcing these types out who are hard, tough, sacrificial players and great team men.”
