Toby Greene gives contract update as Victorian homecoming looms
GWS captain Toby Greene has given his latest update on his contract situation with the Giants as a decision looms on his playing future.
Having played the most games in the club's history with 273, the small forward is only one of two inaugural Giants still on the club's list.
But with his contract concluding at the end of the year, there has been plenty of speculation about what the three-time All-Australian will decide.
GWS reportedly offered Greene a two-year deal in April, but several Victorian clubs have thrown their hat in the ring to bring him home.
With the Giants having their mid-season bye this week, it was reported that the three-time All-Australian would have a ‘proper think’ about his future at the club.
However, the 32-year-old admitted he has used the week to switch off with his family, with a decision yet to be made.
“I haven't had any of that, to be honest,” Greene told AFL Nation.
“I've just been very switched off the last few days, very low key.
“I spend most of the time with my family (and) to be honest, it hasn't crossed my mind too much.
“I'm more focused on trying to get back in the season (and) try and make a run for it.
“I know as the season gets a little longer, people start to talk more about it, then you probably have to acknowledge it.
“But at the moment I want to make sure the Giants are going as good as we can and get it done by the end of the season.
“So, I'm sure that'll play out in due course, but that's where I'm at the moment.”
GWS currently find themselves in 10th place, having won their last two games against Brisbane and Melbourne.
Greene is expected to feature in the Giants’ Round 14 clash against the Saints on June 14 at Marvel Stadium.
