Trade talk: Hawks forward again on Pies radar

Collingwood is reportedly showing interest in Hawthorn’s Mitch Lewis again.
Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary is reporting that the Magpies, who had a preliminary interest in Lewis last year, are looking at him again in 2026.
It comes after Lewis admitted on Triple M on Sunday that he was yet to start contract talks with the Hawks.
Cleary believes the Pies will come knocking if they cannot lure Ben King from the Gold Coast Suns.
“He (Lewis) is out of contract, he’s a free agent, he is 28 this October,” Cleary said on Channel 7’s The Agenda Setters.
“Pretty rare that it gets to Round 7 with a player of his quality that there’s no dialogue.
“I think both parties are pretty happy with where it’s at right now because Hawthorn want to see him build a bit more consistency with his body. He is obviously building his value in price right now, so that will continue to go up.
“Collingwood, I understand, at least asked the question in a preliminary sense last year. They’re into Ben King, but I think if King stays at the Suns watch them shift their interest to a player like Mitch Lewis.
“Let’s see over the next few weeks how hard they (the Pies) come at Mitch Lewis and how desperate they are because they (the Hawks) do have the depth.”
Asked how lengthy a possible contract could be, Cleary said: “He’s 28 so I think he can expect to push for five (years).”
Lewis is building some nice form for the Hawks this season, kicking nine goals on his last four outings.
Another key forward yet to recommit to his current club is Jesse Hogan at GWS.
The 31-year-old, who won the 2024 Coleman Medal, is out of contact at the end of the season and according to Tom Morris there is a contract disparity situation going on.
“The Giants have offered a two-year deal and I understand there’s a big gap between what he and his management want and what the Giants are willing to pay,” said Morris.
“This is nowhere near being done this deal. Jesse Hogan’s Giants future is very much up in the air.
“I wouldn’t be surprise after speaking to some other clubs if he does explore his options at the end of the year. He’s out of contract and I think this is very much a watch this space.”
Teammate Tom Green is confident the Giants will keep the former Melbourne and Fremantle forward in western Sydney.
“I’d like to think between his management and the club we can sort something out,” Green said.
“He is one of our most structurally important players and he’s only one or two years removed from winning the Coleman and being incredible.
“I’d like to think we can make a move there. He loves being in Sydney and loves the anonymity of it. He’d be a big loss but I’d like to think we can keep him.”
Hogan has kicked seven goals in five games this season and has been goalless on two occasions.
