Ugle-Hagan arrives in QLD for career-saving meeting
Is this the start of a redemption story?
Former No. 1 pick Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has flown to the Gold Coast to meet with the Suns in a bid to resurrect his AFL career.
The troubled 23-year-old, who did not play a single game for the Bulldogs this year amid a raft of off-field issues, is under contract for one more year but has been linked with a move to work under the leadership of Damien Hardwick.
Initially making a joke of his trip to Queensland, Ugle-Hagan told reporters: “I’m here for Dreamworld, I’m definitely going to go Movie World, that’s my main job.
“I haven’t been on any of those rides so we’ll see what happens.”
Asked more directly about his career aspirations, he added: “I definitely want to play football. Yeah, 100 per cent.”
There was a strange interaction when a reporter asked about Ugle-Hagan’s season which he suggested “went pretty good, you played well and whatnot”.
With a wry smile, Ugle-Hagan said: “No comment.”
His arrival on the Gold Coast comes just weeks after saying he didn’t want to think about a future away from the Western Bulldogs, but it seems too much damage has been done to an already fractured relationship.
“I still want to play for them and I want to win a flag,” Ugle-Hagan said in June.
“It’s the Bulldogs until my contract runs out and then hopefully they offer me another one, but we will see how we go.
“They have given me opportunities since day dot, so why can’t I get back?”
