“Absolutely wants out”: Curnow intent on getting to Geelong
Carlton star Charlie Curnow is eager to join Geelong despite his current club’s stance on the matter.
Blues list manager Nick Austin told the club’s website on Sunday that they fully expect the dual Coleman Medallist to be a Carlton player next year.
“Our position on Charlie has been quite clear for some time now. We had a really honest conversation with Charlie at the end of the season,” said Austin.
“Every decision we make is in the best interests of the Carlton Football Club.
“He’s had a chance to go away over the break and have a bit of a refresh but we fully expect him to be a Carlton player in 2026.”

Despite Curnow being contracted with the Blues until 2029, Kane Cornes doesn’t necessarily believe what clubs say about their players at this time of year.
“I don’t really believe much that clubs tell us at this period of time,” he said on AFL Trade Radio.
“We’ve got pretty good history of the reasoning behind that because a lot of things they say right now aren’t the things that are going to happen on deadline day.
“This one will take a while. Depends on how aggressive Charlie wants to be and what the deal looks like.
“I reckon it’s 50-50 as to whether he’s there or not next year.”
Sam Edmund is adamant that Curnow wants out and any potential trade will likely come down to how badly the Cats want him.
Edmund does, however, wonder how this season’s runners-up would even go close to appeasing the Blues for the 313-goal 28-year-old.
“We can count on him being aggressive. He absolutely wants out,” Edmund added.
“I think it really depends on how aggressive Geelong actually want to be. Charlie wants to get there and Carlton have indicated that they will trade him despite what Nick Austin says there.
“But the deal obviously has to be brilliant from a Carlton perspective or they will hold him. Geelong have their first-round pick and that’s really about it.
“What established Geelong players are going to be tapped on the shoulder this week? That, for me, is probably the biggest piece of the trade period at the moment - how do Geelong possibly seek to satisfy Carlton?
“And by extension, St Kilda with Rowan Marshall committing to the club (Geelong).”
Furthermore, Cornes floated some of the Cats players that could be thrown up to turn Carlton’s head.
But he warns if none of these types are in the mix then Curnow will more than likely remain in navy blue.
“It’s going to have to be players like (Shannon) Neale. I said that on The Agenda Setters and ‘Pickers’ (Liam Pickering) said no way would you trade Neale for Charlie Curnow. I’d do that today,” Cornes said.
“I know there’s a large age difference and all of that, but I’d be doing that.
“So unless it’s Neale, unless it’s (Sam) De Koning, unless it’s (Ollie) Dempsey, unless it’s (Connor) O’Sullivan, I don’t think a deal is happening.
“I just don’t think Geelong are prepared to offer up any players, they’d like to do it with draft picks. But I’m not sure that’s going to help Michael Voss right now.”
