Star Roos pair share Syd Barker Medal after epic B&F count
Harry Sheezel and Tristan Xerri have finished equal first in North Melbourne’s best and fairest count with the pair both taking home the Syd Barker Medal.
Sheezel, who has only just completed his third season in the competition, put together another strong season after starting slower then expected. The 20-year-old averaged 29.3 disposals (with 21.3 of them on average being an effective disposal), 3.5 clearances and 5.4 score involvements.
The 2023 Rising Star winner also enjoyed an improved time in the midfield this season, increasing his centre bounce attendances by 6%. This was a big factor in allowing the young star to accumulate the equal most disposals in a game in league history, joining Tom Mitchell with 54 disposals.
Xerri also enjoyed a career best season, with the emerging ruckman averaging numbers that hold him in the elite group of ruckman’s for 2025. The 26-year-old finished his year with an average of 17.3 disposals, 7 clearances, 35 hit outs and 13.5 contested possessions.
2024 Syd Barker medallist Luke Davies-Uniacke finished third, whilst Luke Parker (fourth) and captain Jy Simpkin (fifth) rounded out the top five of the leaderboard.
Finn O’Sullivan took out the Best Young Player award for the club, whilst Nick Larkey was recognised by his peers and named the Harold Henderson Best Clubman.
Wil Dawson received the Peter Scanlon Community Award for his work as a dedicated ambassador for the AFL Players’ charity organisation LADDER.
