David King has St Kilda co-captain Cal Wilkie in the gun ahead of his club’s massive clash with Carlton on Sunday night.
The Saints in 11th meet the Blues in 10th at Marvel Stadium with a wildcard spot up for grabs.
King wants to see the All-Australian defender bring his absolute best to the crunch clash.
“This is a huge game for St Kilda against Carlton,” King said on SEN’s Fireball.
“So what do you need when you absolutely have to have your best? I think this is a huge game for Cal Wilkie.
“He’s had a terrific year. There’s question marks about Jack Silvagni and whether he’ll play or not. He says he will, but he has to be limited.
“They need their skipper to play the best game he can play whether it’s against Harry McKay, whether it’s against Brodie Kemp who is in good form, or whether he’s just marshalling the troops.
“I want to see their best at their best when you absolutely have to have it.”
Fireball co-host Kane Cornes has also put a club skipper in the gun.
Toby Greene suffered a quad injury against Essendon in Round 19 but is already back in the Giants side to face Gold Coast in Canberra in a bid to keep their wildcard hopes alive.
“I’m going Toby Greene for putting his hand up to play in a desperation game for the Giants,” Cornes said.
“He missed two games with a torn quad. I’m no doctor but usually for mine a quad is four (weeks).
“And if you’re 32 years of age, this smells of desperation from the Giants and Toby.
“If he’s put his hand up to play, if the Giants’ medical team and the coached picked him against the Suns, you’d want to play well and you’d want to get through.
“I think it’s highly risky to play here. I saw him go down with that quad, he was done, hand up, shot, straight to the bench. That’s four weeks.
“I didn’t think he’d play against the years to be honest to be fair. Two weeks with a quad?
“So I hope it goes well but you’re in the gun, Toby.”
