Cornes’ message to Carlton regarding Curnow

Kane Cornes has a message for Carlton ahead of Thursday night’s season opener against Sydney.
Cornes does not want to see niceties between the Blues and their former star forward Charlie Curnow who up and left on trade deadline day.
He believes it is time for the Blues to rediscover their nasty streak and make a statement against Curnow and the Swans at the SCG.
“If I see any Carlton players go and shake the hand of Charlie Curnow prior to the siren on Thursday night, I’m going to do a Terry Wallace (spew up),” Cornes said on SEN’s Locked In.
“Honestly, the world and the football world in general has become far too nice.
“We are too scared to offend anyone, we are too scared to get in the face of the opposition, we are too scared to be nasty.
“Surely this calls for nasty on Thursday night. Blues fans, are you with me?
“And don’t leave it to young players, don’t leave it to Jagga Smith, don’t leave it to Harry Dean. I know Will Hayward has a bit of a nasty streak in him, which I love. I reckon Ben Ainsworth has got a bit of a nasty, competitive streak.
“If I see Patrick Cripps with his big white mouthguard go and smile to Charlie Curnow that’ll be it for me.
“It is time that the nasty Blues came back.
“We saw a player who had a long-term deal at your footy club, who had committed to your club to be the marquee forward for the next four years, to be your best player alongside Cripps, Sam Walsh and Jacob Weitering, to go on the journey to the next premiership, leave mid-contract.
“If I see anyone go and shake his hand - Cripps, I’m looking at him, he’s too nice - I don’t want to see it.
“There’s not many rivalries in football anymore. I’m looking for new iterations and I really hope that starts for Blues fans and the Carlton footy club on Thursday night with a big statement.”
The Swans and Blues clash at the SCG on Thursday night from 7:30pm AEDT to open the 2026 AFL season.
