Swans ask the question of Gold Coast's red and white kit
Sydney chief executive Matthew Pavlich rang Gold Coast counterpart Mark Evans to ask about the Suns’ red and white uniform.
Gold Coast raised eyebrows last Thursday night when it ran out in a Sydney-like strip to play Brisbane in a practice match.
Pavlich called Evans to ask what was going on, but the new Swans chief can rest easy – Gold Coast won’t be wearing the colours in a game again.
The licensing blunder arose because the Suns have not got approval to wear their pink guernsey and charcoal shorts in away games against the Lions.
It’s understood the AFL wasn’t thrilled with that colour combination when the two Queensland sides met in a semi-final last year, leaving the Suns with few options last week.
“There was a fair bit of debate about that,” AFL head of football Greg Swann last night told AFL360.
“That goes through licensing. It’s been sorted. It won’t be seen again. Too Sydney-like, it was.”
Brisbane next host Gold Coast in Round 23. There’s potential for Gold Coast to adopt an all-pink uniform in that game.
