“What are you doing?”: Golfing Crow cops the wrath of Cornes
Kane Cornes had Darcy Fogarty in his crosshairs after the Adelaide forward was ruled out of last weekend’s clash with Fremantle due to a back injury.
Fogarty was unable to take on the Dockers at Adelaide Oval last Friday night as he struggled with a back issue which just so happened to come about after playing golf two days earlier.
Cornes has made it clear over the years that he is not a fan of extra-curricular activities away from the footy field - especially during the season - and took aim at Fogarty for not prioritising his footy at a juncture in his career when he perhaps needs to.
“What are you doing playing golf two days before a game? The next day you report to the club and you can’t even move,” Cornes said on Channel 7’s Agenda Setters.

“You’re going to miss your second game in a row, your team is struggling, you’re struggling.
“It’s your ninth season. He’s 26 years of age, he’s not shooting the lights out by any means, he plays golf on a Wednesday before a Friday game and turns up to training and can’t move.
“And Adelaide, with a straight face, are telling me it had nothing to do with playing golf.
“He’s in the same draft as (Cam) Rayner, LDU (Luke Davies-Uniacke), Zac Bailey, Ed Richards - these are guns. He should be doing extra hands, goal kicking, extra cardio - not playing golf.”
Cornes has been similarly critical of cricketers Usman Khawaja and Glenn Maxwell for golfing as well as the likes of Port Adelaide’s Ollie Wines who copped an injury when water skiing a few years back.
“I said the same thing about Usman when he played golf and missed a Test match. I said the same thing about Glenn Maxwell when he fell off a golf cart. I said the same thing about Ollie Wines when he got injured water skiing.”
Cornes was asked by Agenda Setters colleague Luke Hodge if he did anything outside of football when he played.
Cornes responded: “No, because I was a professional footballer. I actually wanted to perform and have my body in the best shape to play.
“Too many players don’t.”
Cornes referenced some vision of Fogarty doing back stretches at Crows training last Thursday which in his opinion did not look great.
“The vision of him the following day at Adelaide training the day before they took on Fremantle on Friday is not great,” he added.
“It’s a back injury and the Adelaide Football Club is saying has nothing to do with (playing) golf the previous day. I’m not a golfer but I assume that you use your back, you use your shoulders, you use your whole upper body to play golf.”
The Crows suggest that Fogarty’s injury is a disc-related problem and was not impacted by playing golf.
He will miss Thursday night’s Gather Round clash with Carlton at the Adelaide Oval.
