Spy-gate: Freo coaches kicked out of Bulldogs training
This weekend’s blockbuster showdown between the Western Bulldogs and Fremantle is an elimination final in every sense.
For both sides it’s win or bust, so with everything on the line, you would be prepared to do anything for the win, right?
Including spying on the opposition, which is exactly what Freo did - or tried to do - only they were busted by Bulldogs staff.
Hilarious vision emerged from Whitten Oval on Friday morning showing two members of the Fremantle coaching staff being asked to leave the training session by Dogs assistant coach Daniel Pratt.
One of the infiltrators was Freo’s development coach Sam Naismith who, at over 200cm, was an easy target to spot.
“A couple of Fremantle spies at Whitten Oval this morning,” Sam Edmund said on SEN Mornings. “Not the most inconspicuous and they were turned out.”
Freo and the Bulldogs sit 7th and 8th on the ladder respectively with just four points separating them. Given the Suns have a game in hand, defeat this weekend will end their hopes of a finals run.
The entire season – and in some cases people’s jobs - are on the line this Sunday.
“I can't wait for this game, I think the Dogs win,” David Schwarz told SEN on Friday morning.
“Freo were talking flags at the start of this year. If they don’t make finals, it’s a catastrophic misjudgement.”
Asked if he thinks Justin Longmuir’s job is safe, Schwarz added: “I can’t guess with these clubs anymore.
"If the board is strong, they will stick with him, if they’re wobbly then he’s in trouble.
“I didn’t think (Simon) Goodwin would be moved on (by Melbourne) and I thought Voss was in trouble so I cant guess with these clubs.
“Longmuir is under pressure.”
