Who is the most underrated or unheralded player at your club?
We asked 17 of the 18 captains who they believe to be the player from their club who is not spoken about enough. Collingwood's Darcy Moore unfortunately ran out of time to speak with us.
Read their responses from AFL Captain's Day below:
ADELAIDE
“Max Michalanney. He’s an unbelievable player, talent, bloke. He’s going to be a star.” - Jordan Dawson.
BRISBANE
“Brandon Starcevich I reckon.” - Lachie Neale.
CARLTON
“Matty Cottrell. He plays that high half-forward role. He and Lachie Fogarty are two that I’d have nearly first picked.” - Patrick Cripps.
ESSENDON
“I think probably Ben McKay. His intercept marking is very underrated.” - Zach Merrett.
FREMANTLE
“Heath Chapman.” - Alex Pearce.
GEELONG
“Mitch Duncan. Hopefully we’ll see a bit of that this year with his 300th.” - Patrick Dangerfield.
GOLD COAST
“Ben Ainsworth.” - Noah Anderson.
GWS GIANTS
“Connor Idun. He’s one of the hardest guys to play on in the comp.” - Toby Greene.
HAWTHORN
“Connor Macdonald.” - James Sicily.
MELBOURNE
“Ed Langdon.” - Max Gawn.
NORTH MELBOURNE
“I reckon Aidan Corr would be up there. Always plays his role every week and is a tough defender to play on.” - Jy Simpkin.
PORT ADELAIDE
“He probably is spoken a bit about now, but Willem Drew. He tends to cover for a lot of us.” - Connor Rozee.
RICHMOND
“Dion Prestia. Consistent every week with his performance. Internally he is rated so highly, but externally he doesn’t get the credit he deserves.” - Toby Nankervis.
ST KILDA
“Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera. He’s starting to get a bit of traction. He’s a talent, but I think we’re just seeing the surface of what he’s capable of.” - Jack Steele.
SYDNEY
“Justin McInerney.” - Callum Mills.
WEST COAST
“Brady Hough.” - Liam Duggan.
WESTERN BULLDOGS
“Taylor Duryea comes to mind. Very good defender, plays an important role for us. You just know what you’re going to get from Taylor.” - Marcus Bontempelli.
