Sportsbet parts ways with AFL umpire Nick Foot
Sportsbet and AFL umpire Nick Foot have parted ways.
It comes as the bookmaker insists it will not feature any current administrators or officials in their programming to ensure clear separation from their roles.
Foot's role with the bookmaker saw him feature as an analyst on Get On, a Sportsbet-affiliated racing show that appears on Racing.com, RSN and Sportsbet platforms, as well as providing horse racing tips.
Foot provided a statement to Channel 7's Mitch Cleary.
“My time with the Get On racing team is something I’ll always value,” he said.
“Broadcasting racing, working alongside close mates, and interviewing the people who make the industry tick has been a genuine highlight.
“I’m a proud horse racing and umpiring person and continue to share a passion for both.
“Playing a small part in the AFL is a privilege, and I look forward to continuing to serve the game with professionalism in my role for years to come.”
Sportsbet also released a statement, adding that they will now not serve sports administrators or officials in their programming going forward.
"Nick has appeared on our 'Get On' racing coverage in a racing‑only capacity," the statement read.
"Following feedback, we’ve decided to no longer feature any serving sports administrators or officials in our programming, to ensure clear separation from their official roles. We thank Nick for his work and wish him well in his umpiring career."
Foot will continue his horse racing podcast, 2 Units, with his good mate and fellow former McKinnon Secondary College teacher Dave Strehlau which is backed by Betfair.
