The powerhouse club Dixon considered joining before Port move

Former AFL key forward Charlie Dixon forged a very strong career at Port Adelaide after moving from Gold Coast at the end of the 2016 season.
The Cairns native was a QLD zone selection for the Suns ahead of their entry into the AFL and even kicked the club’s first ever goal in 2011.
After 65 games and 94 games in red and yellow, it was Dixon himself who pushed for a move away, knowing he wanted to challenge himself somewhere else.
While he obviously ended up at the Power, there was one other club that Dixon considered. That club was the Suns’ rival, Brisbane, with whom he even met with as he mulled his decision to leave.
Even if the Lions were in the running and ended up being a strong team throughout all of Dixon’s prime, the now 35-year-old says he was sold on the Power as soon as he spoke to then-coach Ken Hinkley.
“Moving clubs, it was me (who initiated it),” Dixon said on This is Your Journey – thanks to Tobin Brothers.
“I was keen to stay in that I loved the Gold Coast and living there, but I was just at a point in my life where I think I needed a change as well.
“I wanted to experience what it's like in a football city, and I felt that it was time for me to get out of my comfort zone again.
“I was very comfortable on the Gold Coast and I needed another challenge. Not that it wasn’t challenging on the Gold Coast, but I wanted to try and win a premiership as well.
“I felt like it was time for me to move on…. Brisbane and Port were the two that I ended up meeting with.
“I had some interest from some other clubs as well, but once I sort of had the chat with Kenny, I didn’t really want to go anywhere else, that was it.”
Dixon spoke about his career and much more on this week’s episode.
