Cornes: The woeful aspect of Carlton’s loss
After a dismal 10-point loss to North Melbourne on Good Friday, Kane Cornes has criticised Carlton on three aspects of their performance.
Coming into the season as the only coach whose contract finishes this season, the pressure was already on Michael Voss to find results.
And with a 1-3 start after leading at halftime in all four games, that pressure has only gotten bigger around the side.
Reviewing their performance from Friday, the 300-game Port Adelaide player believes that the Blues’ game plan is simply not suited to the modern game given they lack physicality, speed and effective ball use.
“They lack physicality,” Cornes told SEN’s Crunch Time.
“They lack players that I think can play to the modern game, where it is so fast on a fast deck (in Marvel Stadium), and the athleticism piece has been there for me, and that shone out with young legs.
“I thought their ball use was woeful from the start, and then coupled with a lack of discipline.
“Like (Will) Hayward gives away two down the fields (free kicks). You can argue about them, but they've paid them right through the pre-season.
“So, you know that they are going to be paid if you make contact late. So, there's two goals.”
Carlton will be under the footballing microscope when they take on the Adelaide Crows to kick start Gather Round on Thursday.
That will take place at Adelaide Oval, with the match beginning from 7:40pm AEST.
SEN will have live coverage of the match from 6pm with the Bunnings Build-Up.
