The 'scary' aspect of Gold Coast's dominant win

After reinforcing their premiership credentials on Friday night, Adam Simpson and Kane Cornes have discussed the ‘scary’ part of the Gold Coast’s win against the Cats.
The Suns have begun their season with a dominant 56-point win over Geelong, with the likes of new recruit Christian Petracca running amok throughout the match, having amassed 34 disposals and kicked three goals.
He wasn’t the only midfielder to play an important role in the side’s victory, with Touk Miller and captain Noah Anderson having impactful roles.
Going through the personnel that the Suns have within their midfield, Cornes noted how much depth and quality they possess within it.
“You touch on their midfield and their centre bounce attendances,” he said on SEN’s Crunch Time.
“Wil Powell, 25 (centre bounce attendances). Haven’t seen him there. So, (Noah) Anderson is going to be a staple.
“(Alex) Davies is the third highest attended midfielder at centre bounce.
“(Christian) Petracca. Then you’ve got (Will) Graham (who) can go through there.
“(Bailey) Humphrey didn’t (go through there) much last night, but will.
“Touk Miller will if they need him to do and he can.
“They have depth through the midfield and young depth like most teams don’t.”
And considering that Geelong managed to win the centre clearance battle (18-10) and still lost by over 50 points, Simpson believes that that stat is a scary sight for the other 16 AFL clubs watching on.
Especially considering that the Suns were without reigning Brownlow Medallist Matt Rowell.
“You know what’s scary,” Simpson added.
“They lost the centre clearances by eight.
“So that personnel is only going to get better, and Petracca going in. He played one of the best games of his career.
“But getting the synergy right with your mids when you go to a new side, that takes a little bit of time with the connection piece because they had a dominant ruck (in Witts) the whole night.
“Imagine if they click in the middle? It’s scary.”
The Suns will hope to keep the winning feeling going through to Round 1.
They face the West Coast Eagles at People First Stadium in Carrara on March 15, with the match beginning from 6:10pm AEDT.
