Garry Lyon’s 2026 premiership prediction

Garry Lyon has made his early 2026 AFL premiership prediction.
While only six teams have done it in V/AFL history, Lyon is tipping Brisbane to win back-to-back-to-back flags.
Even though they’ll clearly be the most hunted team in the competition, Lyon is certain that the Lions have gotten better this season by adding the likes of Oscar Allen and Sam Draper during the trade period.
He’s also expecting the club’s young stars to continue going from strength to strength as they gain more top-level experience.
“I think Brisbane are going to win their third flag in a row,” Lyon said on SEN Breakfast.
“I think winning back-to-back flags is the hardest thing. But if you prove that you’ve been able to do it, which they have given the added pressure…
“Then you add Oscar Allen, Sam Draper and you’ve got Dan Annable (in the draft).
“Then you’ve got all these young kids that are just going to explode like Levi Ashcroft, Will Ashcroft has two Norm Smiths, Jaspa Fletcher is going to be off the charts. All these blokes are just getting better.
“So I've got them winning the flag and I've got them beating Hawthorn in the Grand Final."
After not picking them to win it last year, Lyon thinks that Brisbane have passed the biggest hurdle in becoming a true dynasty by proving they could win back-to-back flags.
With that beyond them already, Lyon thinks winning a third in a row will be easier than what they achieved in 2025.
“I didn't tip them for back-to-back last year,” Lyon added.
“But once you have achieved that and you’ve demonstrated your capacity to deal with how challenging it is and the little minimal drop-off because you've got your medal in your cupboard (it changes).
“I think they can do it again and for lots of reasons, but they still seem to be right in the hitting zone.”
Brisbane begin their quest for three in a row when they face the Bulldogs at the Gabba during Opening Round on March 7.
