Play On: A tribute to Neale Daniher
Neale Daniher's life, legacy and enduring impact will be celebrated through a special long weekend broadcast, Play On – A Tribute to Neale Daniher, airing on Bunnings Tradio and the SEN App ahead of Monday's Big Freeze at the MCG.
Hosted by SEN Breakfast hosts and two of Neale's closest mates, Garry Lyon and Tim Watson, the special explores the songs that have helped define Daniher's life, featuring personal reflections, memories and stories behind some of his most cherished music.
The tribute draws on Neale's 2019 autobiography When All Is Said & Done, in which he shared the soundtrack to his life, from his childhood growing up in Ungarie, New South Wales, to family, football, friendship and his courageous fight against Motor Neurone Disease.
Listeners will hear some of Neale's favourite songs, from Fields of Gold and I Won't Back Down to Forgotten Years, The Logical Song and Mr Brightside, accompanied by the personal memories and reflections that have made them enduring parts of his life's soundtrack.
The program complements a special feature in this weekend's AFL Record, which showcases Neale's favourite songs and the reflections behind them as the football community prepares for another Big Freeze in support of FightMND.
SEN Chief Executive Officer Craig Hutchison said the special was a unique opportunity to celebrate Neale through the music and memories that have shaped his remarkable life. "Neale has given Australians so much. He has shown us what courage looks like, what leadership looks like and how one person can create lasting change."
"Music has a unique ability to tell a person's story, and this special gives listeners an insight into the songs, memories and experiences that matter most to Neale. It is a fitting tribute to an Australian who continues to inspire us all."
"We're privileged to share this tribute through the voices of Garry Lyon and Tim Watson, two of Neale's closest mates, and to celebrate the extraordinary impact he continues to have on Australian sport and the broader community."
Managing Director of Bunnings and Chair of FightMND Mike Schneider said the tribute was a fitting way to honour Neale ahead of this year's Big Freeze.
"Neale Daniher's courage, optimism and determination have inspired Australians for more than a decade and helped drive unprecedented awareness and support for the fight against MND."
"This special offers a unique and personal insight into Neale through the music, memories and moments that have shaped his life. It is a wonderful tribute to a remarkable Australian and a reminder of the impact one person can have on so many others."
"As we approach another Big Freeze, we celebrate not only the progress that has been made through FightMND, but also the leadership, resilience and generosity of spirit that Neale continues to demonstrate every day."
