Trade talk: Injury-riddled Saint getting advice to look elsewhere

St Kilda’s Max King is being advised to consider his future elsewhere, according to SEN’s Tom Morris.
While King is contracted until the end of the 2032 season, he’s played only 23 games since the end of 2022, with his last appearance coming all the way back in June 2024.
Now sidelined again, Morris says some close to King are urging the 25-year-old to consider shifting clubs to get what could be a new lease on life.
While Morris isn’t saying King himself is keen to move on from the Saints, Kane Cornes thinks a clean break could even be something the club is keen on, given the key forward is on a reported deal worth more than $1 million a year.
Morris discussed King’s future with Cornes and David King on SEN Breakfast.
King: “Are we ever going to see them (St Kilda) with Max King?”
Morris: “He's getting advice from people saying he should look elsewhere, Max King.
“Now I don't know if he's taking that advice… to try to go to another club at the end of the year.”
King: “He hasn't played for this club, why would he go play for another club?”
Morris: “Lots of players move clubs when they're injury-riddled, don’t they? Don’t they find a new lease on life and play elsewhere?”
King: “He owes this club.”
Morris: “I agree, I’m not saying he wants to do it himself, but people are giving him advice.”
Cornes: “But the Saints might look at it as well as a win for them.”
King: “What are they going to get for him?”
Cornes: “If he went to a warm environment, that would be his last shot, maybe.
Morris: “Like Daniher to Brisbane?”
Cornes: “Like a Lincoln McCarthy type. I don’t know if it's a psychological thing about waking up in the heat. I don't know if it's better for your body to warm up. I don't know if it puts you in a better mood.
“I don't know if being out of the Melbourne bubble would help him psychologically. But there are some benefits.”
King: “Come on, I'm not letting him leave just because, ‘We're going to let him go and get warmer’.”
King is currently sidelined indefinitely, with the latest injury update citing calf, groin and hamstring soreness after missing the entire 2025 season due to persistent knee issues.
