“Has to go”: Suns set to face MRO scrutiny for late bumps
Gold Coast’s Jed Walter is set to face some MRO scrutiny after the club’s AAMI Community Series loss to Brisbane on Thursday night.
Walter collected Lyon Zane Zakostelsky high with a late bump after he had disposed of the football.
While the bump was in no means violent, Walter did elect to bump, with his shoulder crashing into the Lion’s jaw.
Even though Zakostelsky wasn’t injured, SEN Fireball duo Kane Cornes and David King think Walter is in trouble due to the clumsy action.
A grading of intentional conduct, low impact and high contact would see Walter hit with a one-game ban. If the grading is medium, he will receive two matches.

Cornes: “You wanted to speak about an incident last night?
King: “Jed Walter, is he in trouble, yes or no?
“He chooses to bump; he makes contact with the head.”
Cornes: “Yes, he's in trouble.
King: “It's a bad start, isn't it, for Jed?
Cornes: “He does everything right until the last little bit. Watching on replay, he slows down, he’s considered in his approach, but then at the last minute, he just clumsily hits him in the head.
“So maybe Jamarra is going to play in Opening Round. But it was a silly thing to do.
“You look at it, if it was 10 years ago, you go, ‘Well, as if he's been reported for that’. It wasn't violent, but it was clumsy.”
King: “We learn the benchmark, don't we? These early cases set the course for the season, so he has to go.”
Cornes: “Yeah, has to go.”
Walter’s Gold Coast teammate Jy Farrar is also set to face some scrutiny after bumping Darcy Wilmot off the ball. While the connection appeared to be to the body, the whiplash could have meant Wilmot was hit high.
Given the impact was more severe, Farrar could be looking at a ban of two or more weeks, depending on how the MRO sees the incident.
Gold Coast next gear up for an Opening Round clash against Geelong at home next Friday night.
