The Hawks have condemned the use of racial slurs made towards Mabior Chol following the side’s loss to the Bulldogs on Friday night at the MCG.
Despite leading for the majority of the match, Hawthorn was unable to get the job done after being unable to kick a goal in the final quarter, resulting in a six-point loss.
Following the match, the forward posted a screenshot on his Instagram story naming and shaming the individual responsible for their racist remarks.
In a statement from Hawthorn CEO, Ash Klein, the club celebrated Chol’s bravery to call the behaviour out and condemned the actions by the messenger.
"Hawthorn Football Club strongly condemns the vile and appalling racist social media messages Mabior Chol received following Friday night’s match,” he said.
"It is simply not acceptable. There is no place for racism in our game and in our society.
"If you are the sort of person who thinks it’s ok to make a comment or send a message like this, we don’t want you as part of our game.
"We commend Mabior’s courage in calling this out and we stand with him. Our immediate focus is on wrapping our arms around and supporting Mabior.
"Hawthorn Football Club is working closely with the AFL on this matter."
The AFLPA and the AFL have also released statements, respectively condemning the use of racial slurs.
